SIL Premier Division: Henley Athletic FC 2-0 Leiston St Margaret’s FC

A crowd of 74 navigated the roadworks and detours required to get to the Community Centre to see a dominant Henley comfortably secure 3 points with a 2-0 victory over Leiston St Margaret’s FC.

With games coming thick and fast, Manager Smythe decided to rest a few, with young keeper Jake Bloom making his debut, alongside vastly experienced new signing, defender Tom Bullard, another new signing, Darius Petrea had an influential debut off the bench.

Henley applied the pressure from the off, forcing a series of corners which saw Bullard and Golding both come close. Golding saw another effort saved by Clouting, with Wright seeing his 20 yard effort go just over the bar after 19 minutes. Henley’s efforts were rewarded after 27 minutes, Tejano’s through ball picking out Wadey’s run, he fired in a low cross from the byline which was well finished by Golding from 6 yards to make it 1-0 at HT.

On 53 minutes Harrison Francis burst down the wing and fired just over from a narrow angle. On 60 minutes Henley made it 2-0, a ball in from Petrea, knocked down by Golding and fired home into the bottom corner by Harrison Francis. On 68 minutes Henley came close once again, a Petrea through ball finding Golding who saw his left foot effort go over the bar. On 83 minutes only a fine save from Clouting denied a clever attempt from Petrea. Seconds before the final whistle Tejano sent a shot narrowly wide, the game finishing 2-0.

Another good team performance from Henley, with the whole squad playing their part in a dominant victory. MOTM went to debutant Bullard, who oozed class throughout, new signing Petrea also impressed the Henley Ultras. Young Bloom in goal, didn’t have much chance to impress as he wasn’t called upon to make a single save during the game, but both his vocals and positioning were strong.
