Gosling’s ball was just too long for Hughes and then Allen shot over the bar. A low cross from Ablitt was well gathered by Austin-Thomas before Joe Allum cleared off the line from Whatling. Head defended well from Bruce’s teasing cross and Storey volleyed wide. Hughes turned his man but his cross was well held by Holland. M Van Oene rode two tackles before firing just over and then M Howell did well to block a goal bound shot from Bruce. A Bruce corner saw WATLING power a head into the net to put Henley ahead.

Halftime; Westerfield 0, Henley 1

The second half began with Haynes-Sparkes defending well when Ablitt broke. Watling headed over from close range following a free kick and then Bruce fired over. Hughes got free down the right but his cross was weak and easily gathered by Holland. A lovely ball from Thrower released Ablitt whose low cross was superbly finished by BRUCE to double Henley’s advantage. Cowan fired wide when well placed and at the other end a shot from Gosling just fizzed past the upright. Thrower set up Duzgan who side footed over a gaping goal. Prentice fired just over the Henley bar from the edge of the box and right at the death, Cowan shot wide of the target.

The Ultras MOTM went to Gavin Van Oene, who dominated the midfield and always wanted the ball. He narrowly pipped George Ablitt, who was a total nightmare for his markers, Dave Shore who cancelled any thoughts of a home attack, and Clark Bruce, back to his imperious best, his skill coupled with incredible workrate standing out on the day
