Prompt but brief notes on this evening’s 0-4 win at Grundisburgh, which drew a good sized crowd to see a dominant Henley performance against a talented and hard working Grundisburgh.
As at the weekend, Henley had a great start, opening the scoring after only 5 minutes, A Tejano cross controlled by Wharton-Richardson, who deftly back heeled the ball into the path of Hooley who smashed it home at the back post. Cole came close to extending the lead, a great run and pass from Hooley fired narrowly over. Punter was called into action to block a close range strike on 20 minutes, with Cole again close with a fierce drive well stopped at the near post after 30 minutes. Just before the break Cooper burst through and picked out Cole whose shot cannoned to safety off the bar, leaving it 0-1 at the break.
Henley continued to press in the 2nd half, restricting Grundisburgh to only getting forward on the break. The pressure told after 65 minutes, a Cole throw flicked on, found substitute Ablitt, just on the field, he controlled with his 1st touch and finished with his second for 0-2. Ablitt turned provider on 75 minutes, his through ball finding Wharton- Richardson, who outpaced his marker, before slotting home between the keeper’s legs for 0-3. In the 90th minute Hooley finished the game off with a fine individual effort, twisting and turning through the Grundisburgh defence and driving home from a narrow angle.
Again, a fine all round team performance from Henley, who despite controlling large parts of the game, always had to be wary of a slick passing and fully committed Grundisburgh.
