SIL Premier Division: Tattingstone Utd FC 3-0 Henley Athletic FC

A bad day at the office for Henley saw them soundly beaten by an excellent Tattingstone side, admittedly, Henley were missing a few key players, but this in no way takes away from the fine display of passing football and sheer commitment provided by the home side. A performance surely worthy of a higher attendance than today’s 37 souls.

Both sides started quite brightly, but it was Tattingstone who took the lead after 16 minutes, a neat turn and well placed through ball released Howell who finished well for 1-0. It could’ve been worse for Henley after 29 minutes, but fortunately Double was on hand to clear off the line. Henley’s best chance of the game came on 40 minutes, a great break down the right by Dende, who fired in a low cross, but Wharton-Richardson at full stretch, could only put it narrowly wide. Henley keeper Spurling was called into action in the 47th minute to tip a well hit freekick round his post to leave the HT score at 1-0.

There was an odd start to the 2nd half, when a minute in, Tattingstone keeper Clarke suffered a nasty groin strain after kicking the ball, a long delay ensued, whilst he received treatment and was eventually replaced with an outfield player. This had zero effect on the home side’s performance, deservedly increasing their lead after 53 minutes with a pinpoint pass from Cork, picking out Howell, Spurling got a hand to his powerful strike but it still found the net for 2-0. On 65 minutes Tattingstone added a 3rd, Spurling again getting a hand to it, but Thompson’s effort was too strong and it was 3-0.

The home side continued to have the lion’s share of chances and possession, although Henley kept pushing for a route back into the game, they failed to really trouble the stand in keeper at all. MOTM Tejano and fellow stalwart White led by example all game, but sadly, on the day, Henley weren’t at the races. We now have a week off to put things right, with all eyes on the coach trip to Haverhill next Saturday with the Ressies in cup action.

Congratulations to Tatt, sometimes you just get beaten by a better team on the day.
