Henley Athletic regret that we have to announce the withdrawal of our inter A reserve side from the SIL league.
The last three seasons have proved difficult times for the team with a lack of management continuity, alongside the common problems of player commitment and more latterly the covid restrictions.
Our decision was not taken lightly and only after exhausting all avenues and huge recruiting efforts. We apologise to the league and our opponents so close to the eve of the new season.
It is our intention, indeed conversations are already in effect, to take a youth team forward and apply to re-join the league in the near future, similar to the original process that played a big part in achieving promotion to senior football and our subsequent success at Henley. Even now, some 16 years on, from that original youth side transitioning to become Henley Reserves, two members of that team, including our Club Captain are still in our 1st team and have close to 900 appearances between them. It was a formula that produced success then, and we’re confident it will do the same again.
